About Hans-Joachim Bautsch

Hans-Joachim Bautsch is Independent Consultant to the petroleum industry

Mr Bautsch has gained almost thirty years of experience in the downstream business working for national and international oil and gas companies. His background spans from short term planning at refinery level to long term strategic development of the companies' downstream businesses on a national and a cross country basis.

Mr Bautsch has been responsible over many years for developing the strategy of the Ruhr Oel joint venture between PdVSA and BP. Related to this task he has played a vital role in developing the concept of a complete restructuring of the Bayernoil refinery which resulted in a several hundred million Euro project. Later he was working on creating an integrated strategy connecting BP's business in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Poland with the NWE markets in that respect not only advising on major capital projects but also on rearranging optimizing supply streams.

When adapting the refining system to the requirements of the European Auto Oil Programme Mr Bautsch became actively involved in the lobbying process. From that time onwards he developed positions and represented the company in industry associations on German and European level, vis a vis other stakeholders like car industry, bio fuel manufacturers and technology licensors as well as vis a vis political bodies like parliaments and ministries.

Since leaving BP in 2011 Mr Bautsch has worked as a consultant to oil companies and has supported several other consultancies.
